A representative of the Hajibeyovs family, who devoted himself to the acting profession, native of Shusha: Osman Hajibeyov

Actor Osman İsmayıl oglu Hajibeyov was born on February 18, 1924 in the city of Shusha. He is the brother of Azerbaijani composer Soltan Hajibeyov.

When Osman was at the age of 10, his father’s cousin Uzeyir Hajibeyov brought him to Baku.

Osman Hajibeyov studied at the Baku Theater School in 1939-1942. In 1942 the actor started performing on the stage of the Azerbaijan Theater of Young Spectators.

Osman Hajibeyov played the following roles in theater plays: Farhad (“The Unfortunate young man”) by the Azerbaijani writer Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, Gidi Kirva (“Haji Gambar” or “From Rain To Downpour”) by Najaf bey Vazirov,  Shahbaz Bey (“Monsieur Jordan and Darvish Mastali Shah”) and Tarverdi (“Khirs Guldurbasan”) by Azerbaijani playwright Mirza Fatali Akhundov, Yashar and Ogtay (“Ogtay Eloglu”) in the play of the same name by Azerbaijani playwright Jafar Jabbarli, Colonel Ferrari (“the Gadfly”) by English writer Ethel Lilian Voynich and others.

In 1956, Osman Hajibeyov played a cameo role as a student in the feature film “If Not That One, Then This One” based on the operetta of the same name by Uzeyir Hajibeyov.

Osman Hajibeyov was awarded the honorary title of the Laureate of the Republican Festival for his role of Imran in the play “Anajan” by the Azerbaijani publicist Yusif Azimzade in 1957, and the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the Republic for his role of Bakhtiyar in the play “Komsomol poem“(based on the poem by Azerbaijani poet Samad Vurgun) by the Azerbaijani writer Iskender Joshgun in 1967.

On December 25, 1969, Osman Hajibeyov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR.
